Just recently I published a guest post here in PhilFAQS about protecting yourself from credit card fraud … in the Philippines or anywhere else in the world for that matter.
Feel free to read it now if you haven’t seen it yet:
Want to know how popular it has been? Answer … not very.
Now I wonder why that is? Certainly credit card fraud and related fears are very, very popular among almost everyone, especially those of us who do business online, especially those of us who live overseas and work online.
Do you think part of the reason no one is reading the article or commenting on the article is because it’s written by a Filipino? Jeez, I would hate to think that was so, but it certainly bears some thought, doesn’t it?
Actually, the reason I published the article was because it WAS written by a Filipino.
A Filipino who has enough “chops” to sit down, look at what is profitable online and the (most importantly) DO something.
His name is Mark de Jesus. Is he going to be a success? I can’t tell you … I went to my crystal ball, but it’s too dusty to read and the maid is off today. But I’ll absolutely guarantee one thing, he’s about 1000km farther down the path to success than the 99% of you who “read up” on making money in the Philippines and then never DO anything.
Speaking of “reading up”, another reason I suppose readership might be way down is because of another trend I have been hearing about a lot, lately … TLDR
TLDR (Too Long Didn’t Read)
This seems to be a growing trend. People are used to thinking only in terms of Twitter’s 140 character messages and they won’t read anything longer, even if it hits them right I a “Hot Zone” … something they seem to be genuinely interested in and even afraid of.
Then, often, when they are desperate they’ll write me an email and say, “I’m broke, can’t pay my bills, tell me the secret to making money in the Philippines … and BE QUICK ABOUT IT.
It Doesn’t Work That Way
You have to put in the time, and you have to actually DO things, find out what works for you, find out if people will actually “buy In” to the solution to their need that you are marketing. Notice I didn’t say people who want to buy what you are selling. Selling seldom works at all. Do YOU like to be sold to? Yeah, thought so, well neither do I.
But I buy stuff all the time, and I want to buy other things, right now. Why do I buy when I hate so much being “sold to”?
Because people cater to a “need” I have. They figure out a pain point I have and they offer me a solution to ease my pain.
That’s literally all there is to it, folks. Don’t sit around dreaming and scheming to find the “best way” to “make money”. Instead find out “what hurts” and end the pain.
In Mark’s case, he’s looking at a very common pain, especially here in the Philippines. It’s much easier today you live and enjoy yourself if you have a credit card. But especially compared to the admittedly confusing array of credit card options in the USA, the credit card scene in the Philippines is … well, a PAIN’. So Mark decided to help ease that pain.
Tricky little things that I didn’t even know about after 8 years living here … Philippine credit cards with no annual fees for example? Wow, that’s pain relief!
This is what I’m talking about … especially to my Filipino readers who are stuck in that endless loop of trying to think of that magic “pill” that will somehow let them make money.
Don’t think about “making money. think about what people need and what you can provide. If mark doesn’t make money with Moneymax.ph, I’d be surprised .. and it won’t be from lack of trying.
OK, I’m way into the TLDR category, so if you are still with me, congratulations, there’s hope for you yet. I will leave you with a “homework assignment”. Go read this post from another Filipino friend of mine who knows how it can be done, and wants you to make money, legitimately while you live here in the Philippines, instead of packing up your time and talent and moving to Saudi Arabia to clean touilt4es for $300USD per month.
A wise man you might listen to, not some half-baked Kano, (like me). read at your own risk, you might get infected with success. More Power!
