Walk About 15 Jan 2009

I took a slightly shorter walk today, again later than I normally would because it has been downright cool early on in the day.  Last night when we were watching TV we actually closed the door and the windows in the living room, haven’t done that since the last time there was a tropical storm.

Here’s the picture from yesterday I spoke of showing the apartment/condo project well underway.   I couldn’t help noticing today how many people nearby have actually invested a lot to upgrade, enlarge and improve their homes in this little neighborhood.  especially when you drive rather than walk the good parts seem to get lost in the clutter of those who don’t choose to take care of an protect their investments.

There’s a stray cat that hangs around our house, I don’t know where he actually lives or if he belongs to someone, but I’ve been feeding him so some time now and in return he always hangs out here and rewards me with a wake up call the first time he hears my voice in the morning and at supper time.  I give him either table scraps or some purchased cat food from the supermarket … they do have a small pet food section but I bet I’m one of very few who ever buys cat food … my father-in-law just shook his head when he first heard of my indulgence to this scruffy animal.  Having a pet in the Philippines is nothing at all like the way most people think of having a pet in the US.  It’s a tough world for them.

A Typical Daily WalkAnyway about a block from the house I saw Thomas the Tom cat strolling along the gutter.  Very unlike most strays here he saw me, crossed the street immediately and walked along side me, singing is his screechy voice.  Undoubtedly looking for another handout, but still leaving no doubt he knew me.  I turned the corner at the end of the block and he followed along in my steps until the next corner, when he finally gave up and turned down a side street, perhaps looking for a handout from someone else, or, well fed as he is, off to seek his true love as tomcats always will.  Mita gets a kick out of him too, he’s really quite a character.

Anyway, that’s it for today, I’m keeping up on the steps also, so I just have to make this last long enough to become a habit.  That’s my daily slice of life here in the Philippines where things are real.
