Everyone always writes me asking about jobs for foreigners in the Philippines. Here’s one that US citizens (or soon to be citizens) ought to be examining closely:

The 2010 Foreign Service Officer Test will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the U.S. Embassy in Manila
Deadline to register is May 24th
Eligibility:
==>>· U.S. citizen on the date of registration
==>>· Between 20-59 years old on the date of registration (over 21 and under 60 on the day of appointment as a Foreign Service Officer)
==>>· Available to serve worldwide

I think the requirement “Available to serve worldwide” would be the killer on this opportunity, as Manila is one of the plum jobs in the State Department, and the new kid won’t get it before the old kid. Sorry about the Buzz Kill!
Yes you are right there, Paul. A fact a lot of the “hoe can you live there” crowd might want to consider … of all the 300-odd countries the US State Department has people assigned to, the Philippines is the most requested by employees … and has the highest “re-up) rate … more employees apply for a second tour of duty here thna any other posting. Pretty good testimony.
