Living in the Philippines — How People Find This Site

I started to write a completely different article today, but I got interrupted several times and when I finally got back to this open window on my desktop I had just checked my visitor stats and I was chuckling at some of the snippets that my stats program showed me people had just been searching for.  Here’s the most recent 10 or so ways people found this blog and a few comments as appropriate (or inappropriate as the case may be).

Jobs for Americans in Philippines: Actually this is two queries that I lumped together.  At least 7 people in the past couple hours found this site by searching on this phrase.  beats me.  I don’t have a job, don’t want one. don’t know of any for Americans here and seriously, I would advise strongly against it.  If something were to change, drastically, in my life, such that I wanted a job again, I would run, not walk to the airport and fly back to the US.  No hesitation, not a moment’s indecision.  There are Americans who work at American-type (and pay) jobs here in the Philippines.  They are sparse upon the landscape.  Hopefully one of them, who knows the subject, would start a web site on that subject … there are certainly enough searchers to make it pay … I just personally think ‘jobs’ are so “last century” that they bore me … I’d rather ‘build my own’.

I need money: Three people came here in the past 3 hours or so searching on this phrase.  Not much I can say.  I will give you a free gift of something called a “clue”.  Typing “I need money” into your Internet search engine of choice is very, very unlikely to result in any coming your way. But likely you already knew that.

12 little things:  3 People also landed here on this phrase, no doubt because I recently published a13 part article on this outstanding little book by Attorney Alex Lacson.  Atty. Alex, if you are reading this, we still need to meet.

Good manners and right conduct: Also known as GMRC this is actually a subject taught in many Philippine schools, both public and private.  Three people also visited this site this afternoon because so few others write about this that I rank number 7 (on the first page of Google) out of more than 3,500,000 web sites that at least mention this phrase.  I still get a chuckle when I read the post I wrote that captures all those searches … G.M.R.C- Good manners and Right conduct and thinking about hoe not only children but especially their parents in my own poor country have no concept of things a seven year old takes for granted here.  Part of what I was trying to convey with this article a few days back as well: Living in the Philippines — Beware the High Horse

Car prices Philippines and Philippines car price list: I’ve mentioned this a few times lately .. at least 5 people an hour, hour after hour, day after day, come here searching for car prices in the Philippines.  Hundreds of people want to connect to those searchers .. but instead of learning how to out rank sites that aren’t really trying to find visitors looking for car pries, I suspect many of these clueless ones are the guys tying in I need money instead.  It’s out there fellows, waiting for you to avail of it.  Watch and learn.

VA approved schools Philippines: A good idea for those who still have the benefits.  Contact the VA directly.  The Department of Veterans Affairs has maintained a Regional Office in the Philippines since 1921. The Regional Office is located at 1131 Roxas Blvd. Manila 0930 in the U.S. Embassy Annex Building.  Benefits counselors are available from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday to answer veteran’s benefits questions.  For inquiries and appointment, our numbers are

List of updfated airlines in Manila: (sic)  Actually I like this misspelling.  Up-fated airlines are much preferable to down-fated ones in my book.  The current “book”on airlines going to and from Manila is here: http://philfaqs.com/get-there/airline-reviews/

Cost of living in Philippines versus US:  Cheap.  Very cheap.  Just recently we had several discussions on how well a foreigner can live on $770 USD a month here in the Philippines.  The upshot was, pretty well indeed.  For more specific information you might like this article: What Things Cost attempt number 279

Well that’s about it on another day in paradise here in the Philippines.  It’s 6:15 pm local time and I need to make my almost every day trip over to my in-laws’ house, find out what activities my little nephews have been up to in school today and fetch the Unofficial Cook home for dinner.

Riddle me this?  How did you find this site today?  I’d love to know.

I hope money came out of the slot every time you clicked. If it didn’t, send $500 to me via Western Onion and by tomorrow morning your house will be stuffed with money … and deeds to ocean-front property in Arizona thrown in as a bonus LoL

You know the search thing is really funny at times. I used to subscribe to a service that told me every day what the most common word typed into Google Search was every day. Believe it or not, it wasn’t ‘money’, or ‘sex’ or ‘fame’ or ‘drugs’ ‘make money wihtout trying’ … it was (drum roll ….) ‘Google’

Every day people find their way to www,google.com and then take the time to type into the search box. ‘Google’. (second most common word searched? “Yahoo’. D’oh.

You really, really, really have to ‘pitch’ everything you do on line to the absolute lowest common denominator, that is for sure.

I’m guessing it’s time for a new costs spread sheet, isn’t it Tommy? I should go look yours up and match mine to yoirs, line item by line item. A lot of people search and comment thinking that prices change here up and down every day like a yo-yo. Actually, they don’t change all that much. I have some cost spreadsheets from guys in Cebu more thna 5 years ago that I was looking at just the other day … actually was amazing how few items had changed significantly.

      • Richard D says:

actually my wife know his wife. i already have a good idea of the cost as I have been supporting my wife there and I have some prospects for making money there in the works also. Maybe I will blog a little also. I didn’t know that you knew Tommy even though both of you are now on LiP which i read usually 2 or 3 times a week. take care there in paradise

Hi Richard, thanks for dropping by and for commenting. Actually, I haven’t been writing for Bob for some time now, although he’s still a good friend and his site(s) are probably without question the best and most comprehensive about the Philippines.

Tommy and I are blogging freinds, we’ve never met, mainly becuase I like to know all the expat-oriented bloggers and Tommy is a resurce I can send people with accessibiklity needs to.

Best of luck in your planning and in your trip, keep us posted from time to time.
