Happy New Year to all my faithful readers and especially to any and all first-timers who show up here.
It’s a new year and while your semi-faithful correspondent here is not “new” by any means, the new year always brings a surge of how great it feels to be alive and especially how great it feels to be living well in a manner I could never hope for back there in the USA .. (and did I mention 100% Obama-Care- Free 😉
I’ve been living in the Philippines for more than 8 full years now (I’m working on year number 9 as I type this), and I really don’t have a single regret about moving here.
Financially it was the best decision I ever made. And life really couldn’t be simpler for me. I’m on my 6th Balik Bayan Privilege Stamp (spend two additional years on the Tourist Visa) … 100% free and about 10 seconds to get issued, my wife and I moved into our brand new house this year, custom-built to our own specifications, I take steaming hot showers free thanks to the sun, I put a favorite niece through college basically for what would be considered “pocket change” back there in the USA, and I learn new things every day (something I wouldn’t be doing if I lived in one of those “Old Age Concentration Camps”, (oops I man “retirement communities” back “home”.
Actually, I typed something wrong n that last paragraph, because I AM home. I can’t see myself ever going back to the US, even to be buried .. I already bought and paid for my “final” residence here in the Philippines.
In the spirit of “giving” (even though I’ll make a small commission), I wanted to share with you a pointer to something which can really help makes this sort of dream come true for you too, if you are unhappy now but can’t quite figure out if the Expat Life (in the Philippines or in any other country) might be for you.
Bob and his business partner Vincent are hard at work making this into a premier resource for those who feel the need to find a better place to live.
As a friend recently wrote, “We Are Not Trees, It’s OK To Move”.
Find out how at Expat Island. I highly recommend it.
