I was happy with Cathay for many years but had to change to PAL because the new seats on Cathay crippled me for 4 days after landing (Lax-Cebu-Lax )

Indeed prices are lower this year, Mike, the fact that fuel is about half the price of last year may have something to do with it. It's very easy to get discount flights from almost any US city to SFO or LAX, by the way.

The $768 fare is from LA/SF only. There are date restrictions so if you're flexible and live in or near those cities it's a good deal; otherwise, probably not. The price is total and includes all the taxes, security charge, etc. Fares to Manila seem lower this year then last.

Another advantage for those of us in the northern Philippines is, Cathay's main hub in Hong Kong.. Schedules, pricing options, etc. in and out of Hong Kong are much more flexible than say, Manila. So it's a very practical option to fly into Hong Kong and take a discount flight from Hong Kong to Mnaila or Clark. What a joy it is to fly from HKG or even better MM (Macau) into Clark ... clear the terminal in five minutes, walk to you car in the parking lot right outside the terminal door and enter the SCTEX for points north or south without sitting behind a single jeepney or smoke belching tricycle.

One of my nieces recently flew to Hong Kong and back, she lives in Quezon City.. I asked if she had checked the prices for Clark to Hong Kong flights, and she hadn't. reported back that they were much less and her dad who was serving as the airport shuttle boy could have reached Clark in not much more time than NAIA.

Anyway I'm a Cathay Pacific fan. I love JAL as well ... maybe because I lived in Japan for some years, but you never see discounts on JAL like Cathy frequently runs. Nice people.
