“What sort of business should I start in the Philippines”?
That may not be my most asked question here on PhilFAQS, but it is certainly very high in the running.
I Have No Idea
That would be my most popular answer. I have a ton of business ideas on my own, more than I could possibly ever put up for myself, and yet there are sources around with ideas … many of them very good ideas, that dwarf my meager imagination.
One of them which I would like to introduce you to today is run by a colleague of mine, a fallow I have known online since long before I moved to the Philippines, Dane Carlson:
If franchises are more your thing, you can look at this list and find one that strikes your fancy.
Dane, who tells his own story in detail here, so that anyone who wants to make the effort can copy his own path to success,
Lives and works in California … in a beautiful community up in the mountains near Yosemite. H doesn’t have to “work for the man”, and he doesn’t build and run businesses himself, either (except for his bread and butter business, which we’re going to talk about now).
Instead, he gets paid, and paid quite well to write about businesses … most specifically “business ideas”. he’s been at it more than 12 years now, and I can assure you, he’s doing well. My SWAG (Sophisticated Wild Ass Guess) about his income is, well on the “north” side od your basic six figures … probably at least $200,000 a year, net, clear), from managing a little writing business up in California tourist country.
And the kewl thing about it is, if Dane we decide tomorrow that he wanted to move to the Philippines, he would have to change exactly nothing. he could run his business here on Luzon, or from the Canary islands, or from a chalet in Switzerland, or … well, wherever.
What’s his secret?
He Has No Idea
Well that’s not exactly true. What Dane has involving business is a constant curiosity, and the diligence to search news items, videos, press releases and the Web in general for new business ideas.
He then selects ones that sound interesting, or just appeal to him, or sound like they have a great chance of success, or maybe ones that have pictures of 12yo girls with their hands full of gobs of worms while they are smiling.
Look at a recent example page:
On and on the ideas go. By Dane’s count, over 26,000 ideas and growing every day.
Many of these ideas are timeless. Many of them also could be implemented (or as we like to say here,“put up”) in the Philippines just as well as they could in the USA.
And every day Dane and his hardworking, paid staff) “grind them out”.
Is there a charge for these ideas? Nape
How Does He Get Paid?
That’s the best part of many of these business strategies I try to inspire you with,
Dane doesn’t have to sell ideas, or eBooks or any other type of openly commercial offerings.
All he has to do is provide the information … lot’s of it, all valuable .. not copycat and spam type content, make it available attractively and promote it.
Eyeballs Follow Value
Once you have eyeballs … and Dane has lots of them … money follows. read the How I Started, Accidentally article for many. many more details.
Once again, my tried and true business maxim works:
Find a Need and Fill It:
Don’t ask “what is a good business for me? Ask instead (or just decide from your own experience, “What Do People Need”?
