Hello, I’m your host here, commonly known as Philly.  My real name is Dave Starr.  I’m a US born man who has always been in love with Asia.

I’ve traveled extensively for business and pleasure and lived full-time in Thailand, Japan and extended periods in China. Seven years ago I met the love of my life, Mita in the Philippines and from then on the Philippines has been top of my list for a place to live.

I’m retired now and Mita and I are living in the Philippines permanently, in Marilao, Bulacan. I’ve seen a lot of information online about living in the Philippines and I decided to make a place to display and write about what I know and what others need to know. Enjoy.

I am also a “Timothy Leary drop out”.  No, I don’t do drugs.  Dr. Leary’s downfall was that his truthfulness about drugs centered all the attention on LSD and thus distracted the majority of people from thinking about what his real message was:

Drop out suggested an elective, selective, graceful process of detachment from involuntary or unconscious commitments. ‘Drop Out’ meant self-reliance, a discovery of one’s singularity, a commitment to mobility, choice, and change.
